As a part of Turn It Gold’s Athletic Activism campaign, the Ohio University football program set the bar high this year. On September 12, 2015, they showed everyone how they win on the field as they once again defeated the Marshall Thundering Herd in the rivalry Battle for the Bell game. This game was an even bigger win for the childhood cancer community as sports spectators for each team witnessed the prominent display of Gold through the stadium.
The Ohio Athletics program partnered up with Turn It Gold for the #OhioVMarshall game, to help raise money and awareness in the fight to help the youngest through their toughest of battles. #OUGold

In most cases when you are touched by a cause and motivated to take action it’s typically because it’s affected you or someone close to you. Because of an introduction and professional referral to Turn It GoldFund, I thought my connection would be out of a general care for children, out of my desire to engage and help fight against this horrific disease.

When my son, Charlie, was 4, he had a stomachache over Memorial Day weekend. After a couple of days of home remedies and phone calls to the pediatrician, I made the decision to go to the ER near our home. The diagnosis was nothing I could have ever prepared for. Stage 4 high-risk neuroblastoma. This diagnosis was our family’s worst nightmare…

We all encounter others, who will have more than us and less than us, but it’s not about what we have or lack, it’s about how we love and treat each other. It’s as if God wants to see what our character will become based upon the environment he’s planned for us. On the morning of May 30th 2012, we heard those unforgettable words “Your son has cancer”, something I never want any parent to hear…

When Johnny Manziel makes the news, it is often times due to attending a high-profile party or sitting courtside with LeBron James at an NBA game. So it certainly can’t be overlooked when Johnny Football’s softer side makes an appearance to make one 6-year-old cancer survivor’s day.

A year ago 44 golfers took part in the Allen Open to help raise funds for Allen Academy, but adding a Heisman Trophy winner to the group made the 2013 version quite a bit more successful.
144 players, including Johnny Manziel, participated in this year’s tournament, which will raise money for Allen Academy but also will end up making about a $20,000 donation to Charlie Dina’s charity, the Texas Children’s Hospital: Cancer Center.
