E + R = O. Event + Response = Outcome.

Sometimes expectations go awry, and we are called to pivot and reimagine our futures.

In 2021, then 14 year-old Braylyn Johnson was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma. After three years of treatment and dealing with late effects, Braylyn was faced with another dilemma: Amputating his right leg at the hip or a rotationplasty. His response? He chose the latter. A month after phase 1 of this process, he and his mom Melissa McIntyre joined Ohio Men’s Basketball at the studio for an evening of sharing stories, building connections, and painting gold medal to be used in Turn It Gold with Passion Flowers.
A highlight of the evening? Coach Jeff Boals shared the mindset of E + R = O that guides how he leads the team and his expectations for players. “Young man,” he said to Braylyn. “You faced a difficult circumstance, made a brave choice in response, and you inspire us all.” E + R = O.
Shoutout to OU student athlete A.J. Clayton and the Barbara Geralds Institute for Storytelling and Social Impact for coordinating the event and Sugar Bush Foundation for supporting Passion Works’ partnership with the Storytelling Institute. #BraylynStrong.
